After multiple delays and challenges, Tesla has finally delivered the first 10 units of the Cybertruck – 4 years after it was first revealed.
Alongside the customer deliveries, Tesla also had a launch party at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, where more details of the Cybertruck were unveiled. Tesla has also updated its website, revealing the variants, prices, specs and all other details of its fully electric stainless steel pickup truck.
The Tesla Cybertruck will be offered in three variants, of which the AWD trim and the top-spec ‘Cyberbeast’ will launch in 2024. The AWD variant will come with a dual-motor configuration, producing 600 BHP and an impressive 350 miles (563 km) of range. It will also be able to sprint from 0-60 mph (0-98 km/h) in 4.1 seconds. The top-spec ‘Cyberbeast’ variant will also come in 2024 but will offer 845 BHP of max power output, a 0-60 mph time of 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. Tesla also claims a 320 miles (515 km) of range on a single charge. Both versions will have a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds (4.9 tonnes).
There will also be a base ‘RWD’ trim, which will launch sometime in 2025. Prices for this RWD variant start at $60,990. The AWD and Cyberbeast variants will retail at $79,990 and $99,990, respectively.
The AWD and Cyberbeast variants of the Cybertruck will also get fast-charging capabilities via Tesla’s supercharging network. Elon Musk also confirmed that both variants will get an optional ‘Range-extender’ pack, increasing the AWD trim’s range to 470+ miles and that of the Cyberbeast to 440+ miles.
The Tesla Cybertruck is said to be capable of withstanding .45-caliber bullets, thanks to its stainless steel construction. Tesla also claims that it also allows the Cybertruck to have “more torsional stiffness than a McLaren P1”.
The Cybertruck comes with a 4×6 feet loading bed at the back, rides on 35-inch tyres and has a 432 mm ground clearance in ‘Extract’ mode. Other details include a steer-by-wire system as standard, four-wheel steering, power-opening frunk, a massive 18.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display in the centre and a second 9.4-inch screen for the rear passengers.
