According to media reports, Tesla cars have topped the list as the least stolen vehicles in the USA.
Tesla’s electric cars come with GPS tracking as a standard feature, which combined with the fact that it has been publicised has resulted in very few Teslas being stolen. Reports also suggest, that even if a Tesla car has been stolen, it can be found relatively quickly thanks to the feature.
The result is from a study by Highway Loss Data Institute, called ‘Whole Vehicle Theft Loss’ which covers over 40 million vehicles with 18,000 theft claims.
As per the study, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are top two least stolen vehicles in the USA. This is followed by the Volvo XC90, GMC Acadia and the Tesla Model Y completing the top 5.
Reports also state that while Tesla thefts in the USA are rare in the USA, they are comparatively higher in Europe. However, the carmaker is said to have started rolling out extra layers of security to counteract this. These include an “improved cryptography” key fob and an optional “PIN to Drive” feature.
