Tata Harrier EV to launch before 1.5L turbo-petrol version

The report states that the development of the petrol engine is proving to be a challenge.

Tata Motors has lined up two new powertrain options for the Harrier. These include a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and pure EV. Both have been showcased at Auto Expo 2023 earlier this year. However, reports suggest that the Harrier EV could be the first to arrive in showrooms.

The Harrier EV will be based on the brandโ€™s Gen 2 EV architecture. The electric SUV is expected to be offered in a dual-motor configuration.

The report states that the development of the petrol engine is proving to be a challenge. But with petrol volumes expected to grow in the coming years, it is imperative for the brand to enter the petrol segment.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said, โ€œWe have already shown the 1.5-litre TGDi engine at the Auto Expo and we intend to bring it. I would say that itโ€™s slightly far away โ€“ 1 year and beyond. But we are going to bring the petrol engine also.โ€

Tataโ€™s new 1.5-litre TGDi 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine is also likely to be offered in the Currv and Sierra SUVs. It produces 168 BHP and 280 Nm and could be paired with a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
