New fuel could ensure petrol and diesel cars remain on UK roads for ‘years’
Sustainable fuel will “guarantee” the future of classic motoring with petrol and diesel cars to remain on roads for “years to come”, according to ex-F1 world champion Jenson Button.
These are greener alternatives that can be used in combustion vehicles to reduce the amount of carbon emissions.
Biofuels are produced from plant materials such as vegetable oils and wheat.
Meanwhile, new technology means carbon dioxide can be captured from industrial processes and transformed into clean fuels using solar energy.
The products could dramatically transform the motor industry and lessen the demand for electric vehicles.

Organisers behind next year’s Goodwood Revival have confirmed the festival will be run entirely on sustainable fuels for the first time.
Last year an entire race, the Fordwater Trophy, was run on sustainable fuel with 30 specially adapted pre-1966 Porsche 911s taking to the circuit.
Competitors will be required to use petrol or diesel with a minimum of 70 percent sustainable components.
2009 F1 champion Button said: “It was great to be a part of the Fordwater Trophy which brought together classic cars and the very latest in sustainable fuel technology.

“What’s so exciting about these fuels is that they can guarantee the future of historic racing, enabling us to enjoy combustion engine cars for years to come.”
Officials have confirmed there will be no performance deficit with the new fuels. This is because cars can run exactly as they do on standard fuel using the new solution.
Four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel is a big supporter of climate change and has previously backed sustainable fuels.
He has converted Nigel Mansell’s 1992 title-winning Willaims to run on carbon-neutral fuels.
The former Red Bull star has taken the iconic model for a series of demonstration runs including ahead of the 2022 British Grand Prix.
Reacting to the news, Vettel stressed sustainable fuels would be the “future” of motoring and motorsport.
He commented: “It was clear to me at the Festival of Speed that the team at Goodwood share my love of motor racing.
“I enjoyed sharing my ‘Race Without Trace’ initiative with the fans at the Festival of Speed and having the opportunity to show that sustainable fuels are a fantastic way to ensure a possible future pathway for the sport that we love. It’s great that Goodwood is leading the way in promoting the use of sustainable fuels at historic racing events.”
