‘I’m an EV owner – I worked out I could charge my Tesla using other cars’

An electric vehicle owner has shown TikTok users an interesting hidden feature that allows it to charge up cars produced by rival companies.

The user @klwtts regularly posts short videos to his TikTok page covering the latest developments in the world of electric cars and showing some of the coolest features that can be found on the best-selling models.

In one of his most popular videos, @klwtts shows how the Kia EV6 can be used as a large power bank, which he demonstrated by charging a Tesla.

He explained: “A lot of people say that you don’t have a gas can for an electric vehicle. Well, Kia is solving that problem here. We’ve got an adapter and a Tesla charger plugged in.

“Here we go, there’s the cable all connected, and we’re starting to charge. And we are now charging off the Kia.”

Like a number of electric vehicles, the Kia EV6 features a Vehicle to Load (V2L) function, which allows owners to power other items from the car’s battery.

EV owners say that this feature allows them to use their vehicle as a source of electricity when they go on camping trips, or even when they face a power cut at home.

Drivers can also earn money back on their electricity bill by putting any excess energy back into the grid.

With over 900,000 views and almost 35,000 likes, many motorists were interested in seeing one electric car being used to charge another but were left divided on if it is an inefficient way of charging.

One viewer said: “That’s so cool! I hope Tesla adds this feature too.”

However, another added: “You mean to say people are going to be breaking into other peoples cars and siphoning electricity instead of petrol?”
