‘I’m a driving expert – this million-mile car has gone through 72 sets of tyres’

An automotive influencer has showed viewers what a car looks like after it has covered over one million miles, stating it has held up remarkably well.

TFLclassics is a YouTube channel that posts videos featuring interesting classic and retro cars from all over the world and in all conditions.

In one of their videos, presenter Nathan Adlan takes a look at a 1990 Honda Accord, telling viewers how its owner has managed to drive it for a million miles.

“Ever wondered what it takes to drive your car for over a million miles? Well, a guy named Joe bought this Accord brand new back in 1990 and drove it over a million miles.

“It took 185 oil changes; he went through nine timing belts. It’s still on its original engine and transmission, the only time it was ever towed was when the fuel pump went out at 741,000 miles. 13 sets of brake pads and 72 sets of tyres later, and you’ve got an Accord at a million miles.”

Whilst Nathan did note that the interior was no longer particularly fresh, with some marks on the seats and the plastic steering wheel somewhat gooey, he was impressed at the overall cars condition.

However, whilst the Honda has covered significantly more miles than most cars, one American owner continues to drive a 1966 Volvo 1800S, which has over 3,000,000 miles on the clock.

Motorists who want to get the most life out of their car need to make sure it is maintained regularly, so that mechanical issues are dealt with quickly before worsening.

With 1.4 million views and over 76,000 likes, many drivers were interested to hear about the million-mile Honda and left their thoughts in the comments section.

One viewer wrote: “Congrats to the owner of that light blue Accord. It still looks wonderful and hopefully it pushes it over another million miles. Those older Hondas from the 80s and 90s are the best ones.”

Another revealed: “I’ve driven this car when it had 972,000 on it. I have a picture of the odometer somewhere. Joe was some sort of district rep for the Honda dealer I worked at in Maine, so I saw this car every could of weeks for the years I worked there. Always spotless, always purring.”
