Xiaomi unveils its first car, the SU7; To rival the Tesla Model 3
The Xiaomi SU7 will enter mass production in December at the BAIC plant in Beijing.
Smartphone brand Xiaomi has unveiled its first car – an all-electric sedan. Called the Xiaomi SU7, photos of the electric sedan were unveiled by China’s Ministry of Industry & Information Technology, while also revealing a bunch of details ahead of its launch in the Chinese market.
As seen from the images, the Xiaomi SU7 features a clean design & riding on either 19 or 20-inch wheels. The sedan measures 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, 1,455 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The car tips the scale at 1,980 kg.
The SU7 will be offered in two variants: single motor and dual motor. The base version will have the electric motor powering the rear axle, producing 295 BHP. The battery for the entry-level variant will be borrowed from BYD. The top-of-the-line variant will come with dual electric motors; one on each axle. The electric powertrain is said to produce 664 BHP. The batteries on this top-spec trim are said to be from CATLE. Both variants though are said to have a top speed limited to 210 km/h.
The Xiaomi SU7 will also come packed with a host of features, including a LiDAR sensor for autonomous driving capabilities. Being a smartphone brand, the SU7’s infotainment will run on Xiaomi’s own HyperOS, offering a seamless integration between the phone and car.
The Xiaomi SU7 will enter mass production in December at the BAIC plant in Beijing. Deliveries are scheduled to begin as early as February 2024.
