In pics: Maruti Jimny goes on a breakfast drive to the beach

Stepped out for a morning drive to a nearby beach at Kozhikode after Dussehra. The plan was to drive and grab a good breakfast along the way. We got a rather empty beach after the dussehra festivities and took some photos of the Jimny against the sea. The sunlight was good and so was the breeze.
One absolute necessity while driving in Kerala are quick overtakes. Usually, a colourful private bus is hurtling at you on the opposite lane and a Lance stroll is ahead of you holding up traffic. So the Overdrive Off button had to be used liberally on the busy highway. It did the job well and we made rapid progress. Once a while, the increased engine sound would catch a fellow road user by surprise and I noticed a startled biker who stared at me quizically while I was doing my ‘OD off’ ritual. After a rather eventful highway drive, we turned off toward the beach and were greeted by extremely narrow roads and lots of difficult sections to navigate. The little fellow was just fabulous here, evoking appreciation from the curious bystanders.
To cut a short story further short, we reached the beach in style. The breakfast was also quite satisfying with the usual Appams, Iddiappams, green peas masala, Dosa and multiple cups of Coffee to supplement it. An air conditioner is a must have in the car if one plans to travel within Kerala and having a power steering and an AC just makes this a phenomenally useful runabout. I have done these parts in a Gypsy and it was extremely uncomfortable with regard to the weather. Not so with this samurai. All in all the Jimny has clocked 6000kms and has brought a new sense of fun to travel.
