Delhi records highest road fatalities among million-plus cities
Most of the accidents took place between 6 pm and 9 pm.
Delhi reported the highest number of road fatalities among cities with a population of over a million in 2022.
According to a report published by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the total number of road accidents in the city increased by around 18% compared to the previous year. Delhi reported 5,652 accidents in 2022, up from 4,720 in 2021.ย
As per the data shared by the government, 1,461 people lost their lives, while 5,201 were injured during the year.ย
Most of the accidents took place between 6 pm and 9 pm. Road conditions, speeding, drunk driving, driving into oncoming traffic, jumping red lights and using mobile phones while driving were the primary causes of accidents.
