Villagers rudely awakened by ‘Lotus Rally’ threaten £8billion redevelopment plan
The roar of Lotus workers’ engines is being blamed for disturbing villagers’ sleep and threatens the sports car giant’s
£8billion redevelopment plan.
Residents living near the Lotus plant in Hethel, Norfolk, claim they are being woken up in the early hours by staff heading home from night shifts.
The noisy nightly commute has been dubbed the “Lotus Rally” with around “30 to 40 vehicles driving at excessive speeds”.
Plans to redevelop the site could now be in doubt after the local authority threatened to derail the project due to the escalating dispute.
In an email to the Chinese-owned company, Colin Rudd, chairman of Bracon Ash and Hethel Parish Council, said: “It is quite clear that any further expansion plans must take into account this unsociable behaviour, as by your own admission you cannot control this behaviour.”
Villagers claim the problem occurs at around 2am, when the late shift workers finish.
One resident said: “The majority are driving at excessive speeds through Bracon Ash from around 1.30am until 2.30am.
“And there is no point going to sleep until it finishes, so we have to endure the Lotus Rally until all the employees have left.”
A spokesman for the company said: “Should it be confirmed that the noise is being caused by our employees we will take appropriate action.”
