Third of drivers are late to work because of poor office parking
A new study has found that nearly a third of UK motorists have been late for work in the past six months due to trouble finding a place to park.
The report, which was commissioned by the parking space reserve company YourParkingSpace found that 30 percent of drivers admitted to being late due after struggling to find a spot, with 24 percent stating it caused a delay of between 11 and 20 minutes.
Brannan Coady, CEO of YourParkingSpace noted that some employees are too fearful to take their car to work due to limited parking spots.
He explained: “People drive to work because it is quicker, more convenient, cheaper and safer. But some people are put off doing so because of the worry of not finding a space when they get to their destination – or, like one in three people who haven’t reserved their space in advance, have wasted time circling the block trying to find an opening.
“Offices and councils must ensure that the parking provision they provide their local workforces are able to cope with the number of drivers if they’re truly looking at ways to encourage people back into urban areas and help reinvigorate our struggling town centres.”

Whilst many employees continue to work from home where possible on some days, the return into offices has led to many feeling frustrated at a lack of available spaces for their car.
Some workers also admitted to parking their car elsewhere due to a lack of spaces, causing them to spend more time walking to the office.
YourParkingSpace highlighted that the 15 minutes that is often wasted trying to find a spot can lead to a business losing, on average, £996 per year for every employee.

Brannan noted that, where it is possible, drivers can save time in the mornings by booking a parking space before arriving, meaning a space will be reserved for them.
He added: “With the age of hybrid working truly among us, commuters don’t always need a space every day of the week.
“So having the flexibility to book only what you need and allowing others to book when you don’t will not only give drivers certainty and prevent lost time but save them money as well as freeing spaces. A win-win all round.”
YourParkingSpace, which currently features 700,000 spaces across the UK, is one of a number of sites that allows drivers to reserve parking spaces either monthly or during certain hours of a day.
The company claims that this system can allow companies to overcome typical parking issues, with those going into work knowing that they will have a space to park.
However, if a space cannot be reserved, many experts suggest that employees who work flexible hours should try to avoid starting and finishing at peak times, meaning more parking spaces should be free.
