‘I’ve been a mechanic for 55 years – avoid these five cars at all costs’
The famous social media influencer Scotty Kilmer has listed the new cars that he would avoid at all costs.
The mechanic of 55 years regularly posts short videos to his YouTube and TikTok pages, giving motorists advice about their cars including avoiding a common myth that actually damages your car engine.
In his latest video, Scotty responded to a viewer who asked if a Land Rover is better than a Toyota Land Cruiser.
He replied: “Well, as they say, looks can be deceiving. Yes, the Land Rovers look cool, but they fall apart as they age, they’re probably one of the biggest money pit cars in the world.
“I have a data system called AllData and it has technical service bulletins that show what’s wrong with the vehicles. If I look up like a Toyota Camry or Corolla there’ll be eight or ten bulletins, I look up a Land Rover and there will be literally hundreds of them.”

While Scotty admitted that both the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Defender are not the most economical cars in the world, he strongly advised the viewer to choose the Toyota due to its reliability.
The car review magazine WhatCar? noted that Land Rover was the second least reliable car brand according to owners, with a reliability rating of just 61.3 percent.
In response to the findings, the company stated that it will be looking into ways in which it can improve the dependability of its cars.

In the video, Scotty also warned drivers who are thinking about buying a new high-performance model from premium European brands such as BMW and Audi.
He explained: “The European sports cars are really fun to drive, they’re fast but they cost a fortune to fix and all of those BMWs, Mercedes, and Audis end up as endless money pits as they age.”
The mechanic also added that the BMW M5 is probably the best choice for a sporty executive saloon, despite its high retail price.
However, Scotty approved of one viewer’s latest car, when another person wrote in to ask if their 1989 Volvo 240 would still be reliable today.
He said: “Those were one of the most reliable cars ever made, I’ve seen those things with a million miles on them.
“In terms of running those were really solid-made vehicles that can last a really long time, and you can still get parts for them.”
