‘I’m a mechanic – this 20 second tip can fix the electric windows in your car’

A cars expert has informed drivers on what to do if the automatic electric windows in their vehicle stop working.

Royalty Auto Service, a garage in St. Mary’s, Georgia, regularly posts short videos on TikTok advising viewers on how to repair small problems with their car.

In one of their most popular videos, a mechanic at Royalty Auto Service explained how drivers can fix a window that will only go up or down if they hold the button.

He said: “Put it all the way up, put it down and keep holding. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

“Put it up, hold it. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. And now we’ve got an auto-down and we’ve got an auto-up.”

In the video, the driving expert simply wound the window all the way down, held the button for ten seconds, wound the window back up again and then held the button for another ten seconds.

On many models, this trick will reset the electric window mechanism, which can be altered when the vehicle’s battery has been changed.

Resetting this function can reset the anti-trap function, which uses a sensor to stop the windows from opening if an object is in the way.

However, like many automotive tips found on TikTok, drivers were told that parts of this trick might vary on some models.

To be certain, it is recommended that drivers check their vehicle’s owner manual to find a detailed tutorial.

Nevertheless, if this trick does not reset the automatic electric windows, there could be a mechanical issue that should be dealt with by a mechanic.

With nearly 150,000 likes, many thanked Royalty Auto Service for their tip, which could save them a lot of money and hassle.

One viewer commented: “I had saved this and just came back because I needed it. Thanks!! Worked like a charm!!”

Another joked: “Yo, I’m sitting in a McDonalds drive-through and you just fixed my windows, thank you!”
