‘I’m a car expert – these tips helped me cut £2,000 off my car insurance’

A well-known car reviewer has revealed a number of ways that motorists can save thousands on their car insurance bills.

Abigayle, known to her fans as She Talks Cars, regularly posts videos to her social media pages, showcasing the latest models and telling motorists how they can cut the cost of driving.

In a recent video, Abigayle noted that, when she recently renewed her car insurance, she was able to save significant money by paying for it several weeks before the policy came into effect.

She explained: “Now, one of the biggest ways to save money, and this saved me over £1,300, is to buy your car insurance in advance.

“The later you leave it, the more it’s going to cost. 23 to 26 days is the sweet spot.”

Whilst many people automatically renew their car insurance, experts state that this will lead to drivers paying more.

Instead, motorists should begin looking at car insurance quotes around a month before their current policy is set to expire, using a price comparison website.

This gives drivers approximately a week before prices for coverage begin to rise, spiking in the last couple of days before the policy is set to begin.

Later in the video, Abigayle highlighted that she was able to lower her insurance further by simply typing in her driving licence number.

She added: “This one is so weird because the previous year it only saved me £20, but this year it saved me £200. Put your driving licence number in.

“So many people avoid doing that and it literally takes two seconds.”

Finally, motorists are able to cut the price of their insurance by changing their job title but warned that it must still be relevant to them.

She said: “Another one that saved me nearly £300 is choosing my job wisely. But make sure it still describes what it is that you do.

“Don’t go saying you’re the muffin man when you’re an admin assistant. Fun fact for you, doctors have one of the highest rates of insurance in the country, and nurses have got one of the lowest. I don’t make the rules here.”
