DVSA issues crucial reminder after the rollout of major MOT test change
MOT: Quick checks to do before having your test
The DVSA has issued an urgent reminder to all motorists months after a major MOT test change.
From July, MOT test certificates now include details about any outstanding recalls using real-time data.
It means road users will become aware of urgent safety recalls when their vehicle either passes or fails an annual exam.
The new recall notice will feature prominently on the front page of a DVSA MOT certificate meaning it cannot be missed by road users.
However, many vehicle owners may not be aware of what this warning means which could be a blow to motorists affected.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, the DVSA explained: “Car recalls now appear on your MOT certificate.
“If you have a recall on your certificate, your vehicle manufacturer should tell you: What the fault is. What you need to do next. Who you should contact.”
According to the DVSA, motorists will usually not have to pay to get any faults fixed.
The DVSA precisely placed recall data held through the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) through the online MOT Status Check.

More manufacturers are expected to join the service in the coming months in a massive boost to road users across the country.
Sue Robinson, chief executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) backed the new update earlier this year.
She previously explained: “The new MOT recall policy is welcomed by the NFDA and is something that we have called for inclusion in MOTs for many years.
“It will be a significant boost for motorists that have missed their free safety repairs due to frequent changes to registered keeper data on DVLA files, but also potential buyers of used car vehicles that would like to check a vehicle has an up-to-date safety record.”

Owners of vehicles which are subject to safety recalls must act immediately or could be slapped with penalties.
According to GOV.UK, motorists are legally responsible for making sure their cars are kept in a safe condition.
Failing to get a car fixed could put owners at serious risk and may affect any insurance claim.
In some circumstances, motorists can be fined up to £2,500 for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
Road users may also be hit with three penalty points in another blow.
