Callum Skye is a fully electric off-road-ready coupe set to be made in the UK

A UK-based company has announced it is to begin production of a compact electric multi-purpose four-seater vehicle.

The Callum Skye is a compact beach-buggy-like vehicle, which will be capable of travelling on a variety of surfaces.

Ian Callum, Head of Design at Callum, explained that whilst the Skye is a small and simple vehicle, it is expected to offer plenty of interesting features.

He said: โ€œCallum Skye is about four metres in length, embodying a purpose-driven aesthetic. Its design prioritises functionality, striking a balance between minimalism and capability.

โ€œThe vehicleโ€™s performance, style, and functionality are central, integrated seamlessly with its engineering. Features such as integrated glass in the lower door sections enhance visibility under various conditions.โ€

A rugged looking vehicle, the Callum Skye features a sleek body with plenty of glass, allowing the occupants to take in their surroundings.

This is contrasted by a set of beefy wheels and substantial off-road tyres, fitted within large and simplistic arches.

In addition, the model will be based on a strong platform, rigid enough to be capable of some serious off-roading for a vehicle this size.

According to Callum, the Skye will feature a relatively small 42 kilowatt-hour battery pack. However, itโ€™s light-weight, which is estimated to be just 1,150kg, means it should be capable of a 170-mile range.

The Skye should also offer plenty of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60mph in as little as four seconds and recharging from empty to full in just ten minutes time.

Whilst there is no confirmation on when the Callum Skye will go on sale, the company say that they will be releasing more information on this unusual EV during the spring of 2024.
