A motoring expert has taken to YouTube to share an easy tip which can help to clear the ice from vehicle windscreens in seconds this winter.

And it’s all thanks to adding a common household material.

The YouTuber @wonderhacksandfacts often posts short videos on a variety of topics, sometimes covering advice that can help motorists stay safe during winter.

In one video, @wonderhacksandfacts advises motorists to sprinkle a common substance over their vehicles windows to deice them in seconds.

He explained: “Picture this, winter’s here and your windshield is a sheet of ice. What do you do? Simple, keep a small container of salt in your car.

“Why, you ask? Salt lowers the freezing point of water, making it an effective ice remover. Sprinkle a little on your windshield and watch as the ice begins to melt away. A few swipes with your scraper and you’re good.”

In the video, @wonderhacksandfacts sprinkles a small amount of salt over the icy windscreen of a car.

As salt has a low freezing point and dissolves quickly when mixed with water, it can quickly melt the ice stuck to the screen.

Whilst the video recommends motorists keep a small tub of salt in their vehicle, motorists can also mix a solution of salt and water in a spray bottle that can quickly be applied.

Don’t miss…

However, @wonderhacksandfacts warned motorists that they do not need to use a lot of salt to clear their icy windscreen.

He continued: “Remember, you don’t need a lot, just enough to get the job done. So next time throws you a frosty curveball, you’ll be ready with your trusty container of salt.

“And that’s your quick tip for challenging winter’s icy grip.
