The popular motoring YouTuber Scotty Kilmer has advised motorists who own a particular car that they should never get rid of it, claiming it could last forever.

Scotty has worked with cars for over 55 years, and now hosts a six million-follower YouTube channel, in which he discusses the latest motoring news and gives viewers advice on buying and maintaining cars.

In a recent video, Scotty praises the Toyota Corolla, showing a very ran down example that a friend of his bought for just $2 (£1.60).

He said: “Today I’m going to show you why you should never get rid a Toyota Corolla. Now, he [the owner] only bought this Toyota Corolla for $2, and it only has like 116,000 miles on it.

“Yes, it makes noise, and this mirror is duct taped on because it hit the side of the garage, and the licence plate is bolted on with some vice clip priors, and to top it all off it has a minion paint job on it. But, when you look under the minion, there’s a Toyota Corolla engine, it’ll last forever!”

In the video, Scotty walks viewers around a tired-looking Toyota Corolla from the early 2000s, which had been resprayed purple, with a minion painted on the bonnet.

Notable features of this particular example include the word ‘Fonsi’ written in place of the front number plate, various panels secured with tape and a tired interior.

Nevertheless, the mechanic said that it is still worthwhile to be seen in the embarrassing-looking car thanks to it’s durable 1.8-litre engine.

With 67,000 views and over 4,400 likes, many people were keen to hear what Scotty had to say about the popular model.

One viewer wrote: “I’ve had my 1999 Corolla for about 10 years now. 225,000 miles and it still runs like new, not so much as even an engine check light on.

Another joked: “That paint job is awesome anti-theft protection.”
