A simple little-known 20p tip could help road users avoid an accident while behind the wheel this winter.

Tim Rodie, resident driving expert at Motorpoint has warned that using a piece of change could tell motorists everything they need to know about tyre pressures.

Sticking a 20p coin between tyre grooves can show whether a wheel is fully inflated and safe to use.

Mr Rodie explained: “When temperatures start to drop, it’s essential that motorists check their tyre tread to make sure it’s safe for them to drive on snow or ice.

“Legally, all cars are required to have a minimum of 1.6mm thread across the central 75 percent of any tyre surface, but the easiest way to check this at home is to take a 20p piece and insert it into the grooves on each of your tyres.

Sticking the right air pressure can ensure vehicles run with optimal traction and grip on any road surface.

DON’T MISS
