Wheeler Dealers hosts Mike Brewer and Marc Priestley have revealed one of the mistakes often made by classic car owners.

The duo called out owners who refused to drive their historic vehicles after splashing out on a vintage model.

Many owners instead opt to store them away in garages to keep them safe but the TV hosts have suggested this was not a good idea.

Mr Priestley, nicknamed Elvis, said it was the “worst thing in the world” and warned buying vehicles as collector pieces was part of the issue.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Priestley said: “Don’t necessarily just look for the trends. Don’t think about buying a classic car purely to make money.

“Buy something you love, buy something you’re interested in because when you love the car you’re much more likely to be willing to spend time on it, to look after it, to drive it.

“These classic cars love being driven. It’s the worst thing in the world to buy something classic and just tuck it away where no one ever gets to see it and it never turns a wheel.

“Buy the car that you’re interested in way before thinking about what’s going to make you the most money, what’s the most popular.

“By doing that, by buying something you’re emotionally invested in you’re much more likely to keep that car alive, to preserve it, to look after it and get it out there on the road where it absolutely should be.”
