Motorists could be issued a massive \u00a3100 fine and penalty points for wearing a coat inside their vehicle this autumn or winter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While having a\u00a0coat on is not against the law, taking it off could be considered a breach of the Highway Code.<\/p>\n

Despite looking harmless, taking off a jacket will force motorists to take their hands off the steering wheel which could be considered dangerous.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to CarMats.co.uk, one in eight UK drivers admit to taking off their coats while behind the wheel despite the dangers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ash Young, founder of CarMats.co.uk said: \u201dThe survey highlights the need for drivers to be aware of the potential consequences of what seem like simple actions such as taking off layers while driving.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cold weather has arrived, and while staying comfortable is important, it’s crucial to be aware of the rules to avoid unnecessary fines. Safety is key, even in the small things.”<\/p>\n

Mr Young said there was a potential downside with police officers likely to issue motorists a \u00a3100 on-the-spot fine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three penalty points may also be issued for careless driving in another blow to road users as temperatures drop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If the incident goes further, the penalties could dramatically rise in some more extreme cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n
