Car insurance policies may not cover flood damage in a potential disaster to Storm Ciaran and Storm Babet victims.<\/p>\n

Compare the Market has warned that not every motorist will have cover and may need to stump up repair costs themselves.<\/p>\n

Storm Ciaran is set to hit the south coast of England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Monday with meteorologists predicting 60mm of rain.<\/p>\n

Julie Daniels motor insurance expert at Compare the Market made it clear that those on third-party insurance policies would not have much leg to stand on.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cHeavy rainfall from Storm Ciar\u00e1n means flooding could be a worry for parts of the UK this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrivers should be aware that flooding can cause serious damage to cars and that not all types of car insurance will cover it.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may be able to claim for flood damage if you have comprehensive car insurance, but you should check the terms and conditions of your policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unlikely that your car will be covered for flood damage on a third-party fire and theft policy. You may only be covered if you\u2019ve done what\u2019s necessary to keep your car safe.”<\/p>\n

Go Compare has also warned those with third-party cover \u201cwon\u2019t be able to make a claim or get a payout\u201d.<\/p>\n
