Lucid Air Sapphire, a comfortable 5-seater electric family sedan recently set a staggering quarter-mile time of 8.989 seconds on a prepared drag strip.

The electric family sedan from Lucid beat most other purpose-built hypercars with this feat. To give context, only 12 cars currently in production have a quarter-mile time of less than 10 seconds. Moreover, the only production car in the world to have a sub-9-second quarter-mile time is the Rimac Nevera.

The Lucid Air Sapphire was driven by Ben Collins, formerly ‘The Stig’ on the Top Gear television series. Collins drove the car on the Sonoma Raceway, California; where he took a lap of the racetrack and also set the quarter-mile time.

The Air Sapphire, although a 5-seater electric sedan, does come with a large powertrain. The EV is powered by three electric motors churning out a combined power output of 1,234 BHP. Apart from its impressive quarter-mile time, Lucid also states that the Air Sapphire is capable of sprinting from 0-96 km/h in 1.89 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
