Buying a second car can present several hidden risks to buyers, but many of these could be avoided by choosing the right place to procure the vehicle, a car mechanic has revealed.<\/p>\n

In addition to the risks common to buying all types of second-hand cars auto dealerships can present unique risks, according to car mechanic Scotty Kilmer.<\/p>\n

The experienced auto aficionado, who recently recommended a “commonly hated car is cheap and very fun to drive”, discussed these risks in a video warning of severe mistakes frequently committed by drivers.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuys that are selling used cars [are] pros,\u201d explained Kilmer. \u201cThey do it for a living. They want to squeeze every last dime out of the car, they have no personal in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other words, car dealers see second cards as something they need to sell at the highest price to help bump up their commission as much as possible.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cGenerally their commission is a percentage of the sales, the higher the price the more money goes into their pocket,” added Scotty.<\/p>\n

\u201c[The dealers] will go anywhere from two to four times what they actually paid for the vehicle [and] they\u2019re gonna try to get you to pay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because dealers are professionals with a background in sales, they will wait until they get as much as they can for cars that have good reputations.<\/p>\n

This is why prospective car owners are encouraged to get their cars from private sellers and not dealers, as private sellers will likely be in a hurry to get their money and will not waste the buyer\u2019s time with backend extras.<\/p>\n
