With the mercury dropping, people will soon be grappling with the annoying task of defrosting their cars each morning. Drivers are sharing their hacks, including rubbing a vegetable on car windows to stop them fogging up.

Others are suggesting simple DIY de-icing solutions using vinegar. But a woman has shared a clever trick on TikTok that could let you hit the snooze button a few more times.

Under the username @kirstennp_, she revealed her simple hack: laying a large bath towel across her windscreen overnight.

As temperatures fall, the towel freezes instead of the windscreen, saving precious time in the morning. She said: “When you put a towel on your windscreen to stop it freezing overnight. It’s frozen itself.”

This means no more scraping ice off your car or wrestling with a bottle of anti-freeze in the cold.

The video has been a hit, with over 252,000 likes and nearly 2,000 comments. One person said: “I didn’t think this worked. Would have saved me 20 minutes defrosting mine this morning.”

Another added: “This is genius.” A third wrote: “Buuuuuuuut… it worked, job well done I’d say!”

To keep the towel from flying off, some folks suggested tucking each end into the car doors.

One viewer even mentioned how fortunate she was that the towel didn’t freeze onto the windscreen, as they had experienced before.
