BHPian WorkingGuru recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I went to the KHT Tata Showroom today afternoon ~2 pm. The showroom was very very bland. Felt very lackluster. It’s partly why Harrier & Safari don’t do good numbers. The Nexon was not even highlighted as a launch car in the showroom. It was simply parked in the far end of the showroom.

The sales staff was sitting idle while only a few people saw the Nexon. Despite there being 10+ staff, they were not at all interested in meeting customers. They were literally wailing away their time & trying their best to avoid customers who went up to them. Really made me wonder whether they were Tier III college students employed for free. Their uniforms too were like what blue collared staff would be mandated to wear.

I asked for a test drive at the reception and it took 20+ minutes for a proper response after I went and insisted 2 times. After which she was literally coaxing someone among all those idle salespeople to give TD. No one wanted to go and they were all literally openly loudly telling her that they’re not willing to do test drives at all. She pleaded with one salesgirl who agreed, but later she said she was hungry for lunch. Then the receptionist asked me to find someone myself. This was pathetic, still found one sales guy.

Then after 10 minutes, he took down the DL details and a sign on the undertaking that if there was any damage to the vehicle during TD, the customer would be held responsible. I signed but on clarifying whether the car is insured or not, the sales guy says that despite being insured, the customer will be held liable for all costs. Sure. Anyway, he asked me to wait for the TD car to come and simply went away to sit idle with his colleagues. No brochure, no price list, spoke nothing. Couldn’t believe this was for a car that had launched at 12 noon, they didn’t have anything at 2:30 pm?

The purple TD car came after 10 mins and some random person was sent for TD! The sales guy didn’t care, just asked us to wait and walked away. Then the TD car didn’t come back even after 45 minutes. I really do suspect he asked the driver not to return.

Tata is not handing out cars for free. Customers are not jobless to plead like this for test drives. Today I vouched never to step into a Tata dealership ever again.

Anyone running even a small business would know that they must highlight a new product during launch & employ sensible sales staff that reciprocates to customers with basic courtesy & professionalism.

Petrol Nexon was being considered to replace my aged Linea, to be used mostly within the city as a family beater car.

P.S.: Thank God I had kept the ScorpioN Z4 AT launch (intro pricing) booking intact and did not mistakenly cancel it thinking I’d go for Safari with early delivery. Today made me realise that I must stick to the booking even if it takes another 6 months.

Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
