The 2025 Volvo EX30 small electric crossover will cost between $36,245 and $47,895 when orders open later this fall, Volvo announced today. The 2025 EX30 marks a new entry point to the brand that’s less expensive than any of its gas or electric cars.

The EX30 seats five and is smaller and less expensive than the Volvo XC40, heretofore the brand’s smallest crossover with a starting price of about $43,000 with standard all-wheel drive. The XC40 could also be had as a battery electric vehicle in XC40 Recharge, with a starting price of about $55,000.

The pricing of Volvo’s newest car is aimed to make electric vehicles more affordable, and offers a counter to the brand’s largest electric vehicle, the forthcoming 2024 Volvo EX90 three-row electric crossover expected to start at $80,000.

The compact EX30 has a stocky wagon profile, similar to a Hyundai Kona EV but with more elegant Swedish styling. It’s more of a crossover than the Volvo C40 hatchback, and Volvo expects there to be a higher-riding, sportier EX30 Cross Country variant in line with its legacy of building wagons.

The 2025 EX30 will be offered with two powertrain options, a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model with an estimated 275 miles of range, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model with an unstated range or spec at this point. Volvo says the dual-motor model will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, making it the fastest Volvo ever. It costs $6,000 more than the single-motor unit.

The brand also says the EX30 was designed to have the lowest carbon footprint to date. The EX30 can be had with four interior “rooms” with distinct expressions and varying degrees of sustainability. Volvo noted a denim room composed in part of waste material from the denim recycling process. Recycled plastic made of old window frames, responsibly sourced wood, fiber made of flax seed, upholstery made in part of recycled water bottles, and other reused materials highlight the differences on the interior.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen oriented vertically and flanked by vertical vents highlight the dash. Volvo says it moved the glovebox to beneath the touchscreen. There does not appear to be an instrument cluster, similar to Tesla models. With a flat floor, the EX30 features a sliding center console with a lower storage shelf, and a storage box slides out to the rear so rear passengers can stow valuables.

The $36,245 entry point is for the single-motor Core model. Every EX30 comes with Google built-in running the infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay is standard. Expect standard safety features to include automatic emergency braking front and rear with pedestrian detection, active lane control, and blind-spot monitors.

The Plus and Ultra trims are available on both the single-motor and Twin-Motor models. The $40,195 Plus adds Harman Kardon sound, 19-inch black wheels, and a black two-tone panoramic roof. The Twin Motor Performance Ultra costs $46,195.

The $41,895 Ultra trim adds a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, limited hands-free highway driving, and a parking helper.

Deliveries of the 2025 Volvo EX30 begin in the first half of 2024.
