Ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show later this month, Nissan is bringing out a selection of five new concepts, the first of which is this – the Nissan Hyper Urban.

Nissan says each of the upcoming concepts will offer a ‘symbolic character’ and ‘custom-tailored features’. With the all-electric Hyper Urban, one of these features is the ability to send power from the car to your home to help cut energy costs and even send power to the national grid, giving owners the ability to earn money from their car in the process.

In terms of design, the Hyper Urban has a crossover body style with bold, angular surfacing – something that hints at the future design language for Nissan production cars. The firm says the Hyper Urban comes with scissor doors but the positioning of the hinges makes the front openings look like the butterfly doors you’d typically see on a Lamborghini hypercar and the rear doors are almost gullwing-esque.

There’s also a full suite of concept car features with full-width LED lights front and rear, a yoke-style steering wheel, a set of wacky trapezoid design wheels and an expansive panoramic sunroof.

Inside the Hyper Urban you’ll find a cabin that has been influenced by ‘urban living spaces’. That means more angular surfacing, a customisable instrument panel that can change depending on the driver’s mood, and collapsible front seats that create a ‘relaxing space’ – similar to the ‘Lounge concept seats’ we saw with the old Smart ForFour. With the front seats folded away, a fold-out set of screens appears from the centre console.
