A motoring expert has reassured drivers that the proposed ban on new petrol and diesel cars will not restrict the examples currently on the road.<\/p>\n
Abigayle, who is better known as SheTalksCars, is an automotive influencer who regularly posts short and informative videos to her TikTok page to help viewers with motoring issues.<\/p>\n
In one of her most recent videos, Abigayle responds to a message from a viewer called Faizan, who supported the move to push the deadline back to 2035, stating that it would allow motorists to enjoy petrol cars for longer.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cYou\u2019re not going to be able to buy petrol or diesel cars anymore? Well, that\u2019s what people thought the 2030 ban meant and that\u2019s not it what it meant.<\/p>\n
\u201cFaizan said \u2018It\u2019s good news, it means we can enjoy good cars for longer now\u2019. That was never the situation, you could still enjoy petrol cars, you wouldn\u2019t just need to get rid of your petrol or diesel car from 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n Abigayle explained that the proposed law is meant to only restrict the sale of new cars, many of the latest are already fully electric.<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cThis is what it really meant. From 2030, in the UK, you wouldn\u2019t be able to purchase brand new petrol or diesel cars or vans, just brand-new ones.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd let\u2019s be honest, manufacturers aren\u2019t really making them anyway so does it really matter? I think Rishi knew that which is why he said it, because he knows that the strategies have already changed so it was going to happen anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n Whilst the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has stated that the uptake of electric vehicles in the UK is at an all-time high, with one being sold approximately every sixty seconds, the Prime Minister\u2019s announcement may cause some drivers to think twice.<\/p>\n The vehicle retail platform Cinch highlighted a study published after the news that found that petrol or diesel car owners felt 41 percent less likely to buy an electric car in the next 12 months.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, many countries plan to enforce similar mandates, with the European Union also set to ban fossil fuel-powered cars and vans by 2035.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/24\/590x\/secondary\/petrol-station-4973965.jpg?r=1695653946968\")
