3-Year Ownership Update: 39,700 km<\/h2>\n

Completed 3 years of ownership today of my Tata Harrier XZA+ with Delhi-Auli-Delhi. Harrier is not our daily drive, as I work from home and my wife has an official car. This is mostly our touring vehicle with go-anywhere capability (yeah, I would have opted for AWD but had very few options in 2020). In these 3 years, we have taken the following major road trips I am also mentioning the corresponding mileage figures as per MID.<\/p>\n

• Bhopal-Trivandrum-Bhopal : 16.8km\/l<\/li>\n
• Bhopal-Delhi-Bhopal : 17km\/l<\/li>\n
• Bhopal-Amarkantak-Bhopal : 16.2 km\/l<\/li>\n
• Bhopal-Khujaraho-Bhopal : 17.5km\/l<\/li>\n
• Delhi-Trivandrum-Delhi : 15.5 km\/l<\/li>\n
• Delhi-Narkhanda-Bagha Saran-Delhi Narkhanda-Bagha Saran is one of the narrowest and most dangerous roads I drove with Harrier. If I had known it early, I might have taken a smaller car for that route. 14.5 km\/l<\/li>\n
• Delhi-Sitlakhet-Delhi : 14.2 km\/l<\/li>\n
• Delhi-Auli-Delhi : 13.8 km\/l<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Ownership Experience:<\/h2>\n

  \n
  • Rugged, Rattle Free and Niggle Free: Taken this car through places where there are no roads. We love exploring offbeat destinations and avoiding tourist attractions. I am not a driver who abuses the car, but I am not the one who will slow down on every bump and pothole.<\/li>\n
  • Ride Quality : Slightly stiff at low speeds but rides flat above 40 km\/hr.<\/li>\n
  • Spacious Cabin : Acres of real estate and can carry 5 people in a comfortable manner.<\/li>\n
  • Safety : Has six airbags and a couple of ESP modes. Yes, this is not crash-tested, and filter intrusion into the driver’s knee region is a major safety risk. But I hope the platform is stable, which will secure a 4-star GNCAP.<\/li>\n
  • Steering : Tight at low speeds and a bit vague or oversensitive at high speeds. After driving a continuous 16-hour journey from Auli to Delhi, my back aches a lot due to manoeuvring those endless, winding roads.<\/li>\n
  • Interior Quality: I have open parking (always I opted for societies with closed parking, but this time the broker cheated us and we ended up with open parking), but the interiors are still holding up nicely after 3 summers. So far, the colour is intact, and there is no chipping of materials either. Once every three months, I use Maguer polish on Dash and other plastics.<\/li>\n
  • AC : Chilling AC. Blower noise at maximum is a bit high but manageable.<\/li>\n
  • Exterior : Paint quality is not comparable to VW, Mahindra, and Hyundai\/Kia. There is rusting in the engine bay. It seems the paint is chipping easily when compared to my old cars (Figo and Punto). A lot has been written about the misalignment and consistency of panel gaps.<\/li>\n
  • Drive modes : I use Sports modes only for overtaking in single carriageways, and City drive mode is the default and I have never used Eco.<\/li>\n
  • Ergonomics : Really bad. Knees touching the dashboard, Lack of useable armrests. Seats are comfortable, and lumbar support is an advantage.<\/li>\n
  • NVH : Average. Noisy engine, slight vibrations at low revs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Service Charges<\/h2>\n

    Service at every 7.5km\/6-months, Actually checkup at 7.5k\/6 months and main service every 15k\/1 year<\/p>\n

    • Second Free Service : 7384km – INR 639\/-, 02\/Nov\/2020<\/li>\n
    • Third Free Service : 14790km – INR 11800\/- , 29\/Jun\/2021<\/li>\n
    • Fourth Service : 21428km – INR 4301 , 30\/Oct\/2021<\/li>\n
    • Fifth Service : 27178 km- 14108\/-, 04\/Feb\/2022<\/li>\n
    • Sixth Service: 30800km – 18741\/- , 14\/Jul\/2022 (changed the brake pads and disks)<\/li>\n
    • Seventh Service : 34634km – 19150\/-, – 17\/Feb\/2023<\/li>\n
    • Eighth Service :35917km – 2475\/-, 11\/Aug\/2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Conclusion<\/h2>\n

      Other than the size (for a family of 2 this big a car is an overkill . The space it took on the road and the fuel it burns for those vacant spaces) am happy with the car. An average car for touring safely with a service network in most towns.<\/p>\n

      I like the Harrier but do not love it.<\/p>\n
