A motoring expert has advised drivers that they should top up their car with fuel when the tank is half-full to save money.<\/p>\n
During August 2023, the price of fuel continued to rise, with petrol typically costing \u00a31.49.1 per litre and a litre of diesel setting drivers back \u00a31.51 on average.<\/p>\n
However, the vehicle history checker RegCarCheck has said that drivers can get the most for their money if they fill up more frequently.<\/p>\n
James Baker, from RegCarCheck stated that fuel evaporates at a faster rate when it is exposed to air.<\/p>\n
He explained: \u201cWhen fuel meets air, it evaporates faster. Petrol tanks hold an inner roof that limits evaporation, driving with less oxygen in the tank eliminates this further.\u201d<\/p>\n
