That\u2019s because the PHEV model isn\u2019t due to hit the road until 2025, so plenty of testing will take place in the meantime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--qjPrbQ7r--\/f_auto,t_related-embed-mobile@1\/v1690553339\/autoexpress\/2023\/07\/Amarok%20vs%20%20Ranger%20vs%20Hilux%20group%20test.jpg\">Ford Ranger vs Toyota Hilux vs Volkswagen Amarok: 2023 group test review<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the outside the Ranger PHEV looks identical to the standard model, apart from an additional flap for the charging port situated next to the fuel filler cap, plus a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels.<\/p>\n<p>Powering the Ranger Plug-in Hybrid will be a 2.3-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, combined with an electric motor and rechargeable battery. Ford hasn\u2019t disclosed details of the plug-in hybrid system, although it\u2019s said to be targeting a WLTP-rated all-electric range of more than 28 miles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--Ky9lVBL1--\/f_auto,t_content-image-full-mobile@1\/v1695041070\/autoexpress\/2023\/09\/Ford%20Ranger%20PHEV%202023.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The combination of the petrol unit and electric powertrain will ensure the Ranger PHEV will be the torquiest Ranger you can buy, although maximum towing capacity is targeted at 3,500kg &#8211; which is the same as the diesel Ranger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plug-in hybrid system will enable Ford to add its \u2018Pro Power Onboard\u2019 system to the Ranger. This allows for vehicle-to-load charging of power tools and appliances. Hans Schep, general manager, Ford\u00a0Pro, Europe says, \u201cwith Pro Power Onboard for the first time, Ranger owners can power their work sites and campsites easily.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Given the potential of electric-only running, we expect tweaks to the Ranger\u2019s infotainment system. On the previous Transit Custom PHEV, there was an energy flow display and the range in the driver\u2019s trip computer would show EV range as an extra figure next to the petrol engine\u2019s range.
