Had to happen soon enough. Modifying SUVs and 4x4s is a profit-rich environment, and tinkering with BMW engines has been going on for a very long time, so it was only a matter of time before somebody got to tuning to the Ineos Grenadier. The car is apparently never far from people’s minds, the BMW B58 straight-six is eminently tweakable, and – if you need further evidence – just look at the extent of the aftermarket so far as old Defenders go. This was always going to continue in a similar vein.

Milltek Sport believes it has the first modified Grenadier to market; the project is kicking off with a filter-back exhaust system for now, with a three-inch bore and a choice of tips, but there is more to come. Interestingly, given Milltek’s background, there’s apparently going to be an exterior styling package. But it also states that the exhaust ‘paves the way for further modifications should owners wish to explore the tuning potential’. And you can bet Milltek won’t be stopping with just standard power. For now, prices start at £872.

The new system is made from T304L stainless steel, which ‘will last almost indefinitely’ – good to know given the Grenadier’s intended use – and mounts using original fixtures. Handy for fitting, but also means off-road ability isn’t compromised by anything required for the new exhaust hanging down.

Indeed, it says something about cars and tuning at the moment that Milltek has launched another SUV system at the same time as the Grenadier. It’s for the new Range Rover P530, again goes from the particulate filter back, and comes with a Sport Valve Controller so the driver can control exactly when full noise is unleashed. A sound ‘reminiscent of the previous Range Rover Sport SVR’ is promised, which is encouraging given the switch from the old 5.0-litre supercharged ripsnorter to a more grown-up 4.4-litre twin turbo. The Milltek Range Rover exhaust is also available now, priced from £3,811.
