Prices are one major issue with 87 percent of buyers believing the vehicles are too expensive to purchase.<\/p>\n
AutoTrader data shows electric models are around 33 percent more expensive than petrol and diesel cars.<\/p>\n
Edmund King OBE, AA President warned costs were \u201cputting off\u201d motorists from making the switch.<\/p>\n
He has called on the Government and local authorities to continue offering incentives to draw people in.<\/p>\n
He explained: \u201cThere is no doubt that the higher initial cost of EVs and charging difficulties, particularly for those without off-street parking, are putting off a significant proportion of drivers from being able to make the switch.<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n \u201cFinancial incentives are needed to help \u2018level up\u2019 the affordability for those drivers not able to benefit from salary sacrifice or company car discounts.<\/p>\n \u201cOnce drivers are able to go electric they will enjoy the financial, driving and environmental benefits and will not look back.\u201d<\/p>\n Many financial incentives introduced for EV owners are now also being scrapped with some councils now issuing fees for parking permits.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Chancellor has already confirmed electric owners will need to pay car tax from 2025.<\/p>\n Ian Plummer, commercial director at Auto Trader has also demanded the Government intervene to support motorists.<\/p>\n He commented: \u201cSupport from the tax system to put the used EV market on a more robust footing is vital for the sustainability of the entire EV market and our chances of successfully transitioning to EVs by 2030.<\/p>\n \u201cConsumers are still worried about affordability and charging, which is why we need a clear statement of intent from the Government. Penalising drivers who have to charge in public with higher VAT is simply unfair: we need to end this charging injustice.\u201d<\/p>\n
