{"id":237419,"date":"2023-09-06T17:50:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-06T17:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automotobuzz.com\/?p=237419"},"modified":"2023-09-06T17:50:00","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T17:50:00","slug":"new-porsche-macan-ev-out-testing-with-minimal-camouflage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automotobuzz.com\/car-reviews\/new-porsche-macan-ev-out-testing-with-minimal-camouflage\/","title":{"rendered":"New Porsche Macan EV out testing with minimal camouflage"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Porsche\u2019s all-electric SUV looks almost ready to launch and we expect to see it before the end of the year<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--11lee9im--\/f_auto,t_author-mobile@1\/v1570031548\/autoexpress\/alastair_crooks_headshot.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--C7PLHlB0--\/f_auto,t_content-image-full-mobile@1\/v1694015196\/autoexpress\/2023\/09\/Porsche-Macan-EV-002_wuwe2j.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve caught the new Macan EV testing multiple times and Porsche itself has even issued a sketch of its upcoming all-electric SUV, but these latest spy pictures give us our best look yet ahead of its expected unveiling later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Macan is Porsche\u2019s second best-selling model globally (after the Cayenne) so electric version is coming a little late considering it has many tough rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Lexus RZ and BMW iX3 in the mid-size premium electric SUV sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These new images confirm many exterior design details that\u2019ll feature on the Macan EV. The headlight cluster is similar to the Taycan\u2019s &#8211; thinner than the unit seen on the current internal-combustion engined Porsche Macan models. Below are a set of secondary lights and there\u2019s no upper grille, just a thin opening low down in the bumper integrating the radar system. The overall design of the front bumper is also on show for the first time in these images, combined with a protruding lip spoiler.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--yRhp2pqH--\/f_auto,t_related-embed-mobile@1\/v1679578083\/autoexpress\/2023\/03\/Best%20electric%20SUVs%20-%20header%20image.jpg\">Top 10 best electric SUVs to buy 2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The profile of the electric Macan is much more rakish than that of the ICE Macan, creating a more sporting stance. The roofline slopes down to the boot opening in the typical Macan coupe-SUV style and to the rear we can see an active aerodynamic spoiler. Unlike the Audi Q6 e-tron (which will use the same architecture and will be offered in SUV and coupe-suv \u2018Sportback\u2019 guise), the Macan EV could remain solely as a coupe-SUV. There\u2019s still a little bit of camouflage on the rear light area but we can clearly see a lightbar just like the Taycan\u2019s here. The obviously fake exhaust tips from previous test cars have finally been dropped from the rear bumper.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche has already spoken of its desire to make the Macan EV the sportiest offering within its segment. To achieve this, the Macan EV will be one of the first cars to sit on the VW Group\u2019s new PPE architecture. Senior engineers from the Macan EV project have told Auto Express that the adoption of an all-new platform, the Volkswagen Group\u2019s latest PPE setup, will allow the Macan to feature not only trick 800V electrics but also significant chassis tweaks that will \u201cmake the Macan feel unmistakably like a Porsche\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--2IaGZJ7U--\/f_auto,t_content-image-full-mobile@1\/v1694015197\/autoexpress\/2023\/09\/Porsche-Macan-EV-004_ppmimr.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Underneath the body we\u2019ll see the most advanced iterations yet of Porsche\u2019s Active Suspension Management, with two-valve dampers used for the first time on any of the firm\u2019s cars, electric or combustion-engined. \u201cThis allows us a greater spread of settings,\u201d Dominik Hartmann, the car\u2019s chief chassis engineer told us. \u201cYou\u2019ll feel a bigger difference between all of the PASM modes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both steel springs and air suspension will be available, with a double-wishbone layout at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear. The car will be able to vector its torque from front to rear \u2013 in fact, it will run in rear-drive mode most of the time, with the front motor disconnected, as in the latest Taycans \u2013 and an electronic rear differential will allow lateral torque flow at this end of the vehicle, improving agility. There\u2019s rear steering too, with up to five degrees of angle to aid manoeuvrability and stability, and a revised front\/rear weight distribution of 48\/52 has persuaded Porsche to increase the difference in width between the front and rear tyres. Up to 22-inch wheel sizes will be offered.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--2ndlamRb--\/v1683626472\/assets\/partners\/powered-by-motorway_150x70.png\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.autoexpress.co.uk\/image\/private\/s--2ZmCLUDd--\/f_auto,t_content-image-full-mobile@1\/v1694015225\/autoexpress\/2023\/09\/Porsche-Macan-EV-020_ubkes4.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The new model \u2013 the first of Porsche\u2019s nameplates to move across from combustion-engined power to all-electric propulsion \u2013 will make use of the PPE platform to get a longer wheelbase within similar dimensions to the current car\u2019s. This should boost cabin space in the rear. Hartmann told us, \u201cI\u2019m over six-foot four-inches and I\u2019m very comfortable in the rear cabin. We\u2019re confident we have made gains in the packaging there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Macans have been spied testing for over a year now and Porsche has even issued official \u2018teaser\u2019 images of its prototypes.
