Red Bull and AlphaTauri to run Acura branding in Austin

The Acura name is to return to F1 at the United States Grand Prix, with both Red Bull and AlphaTauri sporting it on their cars.

While Honda’s North American high-performance brand have never had their own team, they have featured on the grid a number of times over the years.

The company name could be found on the helmets of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost at the 1989 Canadian Grand Prix for example, and at the same circuit in 2007 on the visors of the Honda drivers.

They will feature on visors again this year as well as on the overalls of all four drivers using Honda engines.

What’s more, their branding will also be on the rear wing of all four cars.

“As Honda’s high-performance marque in North America it seems only right and proper that Acura should be present at the pinnacle of motorsport: Formula 1,” said Christian Horner.

“We are delighted to welcome them back for this year’s United States Grand Prix. I remember Alain Prost winning the US Grand Prix in 1989 with Acura on his visor,

“So hopefully having the brand with us this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas will bring us the same result.”

Acura are a fairly big name in the world of American motorsport, currently having two cars in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and competing in a number of other categories over the years.

They say that being in motorsport is hugely important for them and so are pleased to have the partnership with the two F1 teams for the race weekend.

“I’ve been a huge Formula 1 fan my whole life,” said Emile Korkor, assistant vice-president of Acura National Sales.

“And as a kid growing up in Canada I remember when Acura appeared on the helmets of Senna and Prost at the Canadian Grand Prix.

“Motorsports competition is extremely important for a performance brand like Acura and we couldn’t be more excited about the partnership with Red Bull Racing Honda and Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda for this race.”

The partnership between Honda and Red Bull will only last for six more races, and it could have a dream ending with Max Verstappen currently leading the standings.

The Japanese company are optimistic that he can win at least three of the final rounds.
