France not a 'favourable' circuit for Ferrari

Ferrari team boss, Mattia Binotto, is not overly confident of success at the upcoming French Grand Prix, where the track “isn’t particularly favourable”.

There were signs of life from the Scuderia last time out in Canada with Sebastian Vettel landing pole position and was then first over the finish line. The win of course taken away from him because of a controversial five-second penalty for returning to the track in an unsafe manner.

While the fall-out from the incident continues, Binotto is eager to put the focus back on track. However, he is expecting Ferrari’s struggles in France last year to potentially return again this weekend.

“Following Canada we definitely want to get back on track and go racing with our rivals once again,” said Binotto in Ferrari’s French Grand Prix preview.

“In France we will have a few small evolutions, elements that represent for us a useful step in defining the direction we will take in developing the car.

“What we will be bringing won’t be the solution to our problems, but the technical feedback we get from these evolutions will be important for the next steps we take.

“Paul Ricard has been a tricky circuit for us last year and we know that this kind of track isn’t particularly favourable for our package, but nothing is impossible so we will be ready to do our best.”

Following the Canadian Grand Prix, Ferrari find themselves 123 points behind Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship; Sebastian Vettel is 62 points behind World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
