In what might be the second worst-kept secret in autodom – the C8 midengine Corvette is first — Dodge introduced a widebody version of the 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat and SRT Scat Pack at a local event on Thursday. Like the Challenger Widebody, the Charger will get wider wheels to fit under its wider body and suspension upgrades to take advantage of the extra grip.

Power remains the same, which no one can complain about, meaning 707 hp and 650 lb-ft for the Hellcat and 485 hp and 475 lb-ft for the Scat Pack. Both stick with eight-speed automatic transmissions. Acceleration to 60 mph takes just 3.6 seconds in the Hellcat and 4.3 seconds in the Scat Pack, but what matters more is its performance around a track. Dodge claims the Hellcat Widebody will go around a 2.1-mile road course 2.1 seconds faster than its narrow-body counterpart and the Scat Pack will lop 1.3 seconds off.

The Widebody Package, which is now standard on the Hellcat Charger and optional on the Scat Pack, comes with 20-inch-by-11-inch wheels at all four corners wrapped with standard Pirelli 305/35/ZR20 all-season tires (three-season tires are optional). Underneath are Brembo six-piston brakes in front with two-piece calipers clamping on 15.4-inch discs and four-piston jobs in back. Both will pull almost 1 g on the skidpad.

Like the other SRTs, the Charger Widebodies will come with selectable drive modes that adjust the steering, throttle, transmission, traction control and suspension stiffness. All will be controlled by the central Uconnect infotainment screen. Hellcat handling upgrades include increased front spring rates (32 percent stiffer than previous model), larger sway bars (expanding from 32 millimeters to 34 millimeters in front and from 19 millimeters to 22 millimeters in the back) and retuned shocks with revised valving. The Scat Pack gets suspension upgrades too, but slightly less aggressive than the Hellcat’s.

Inside there’s a new available Carbon and Suede Package that adds real carbon-fiber accents. There’s also a new instrument panel badge. The standard seats continue to be heated and ventilated and the big, chunky, airplane-throttle gear selector stays, but feel free to use the paddle shifters instead.

Lower level Chargers will also exist in 2020, so if you want a V6, an AWD GT or a 375-hp R/T, you’ll still be able to get those too. I don’t know why you might want one when there are so many more horses to corral, but they’ll exist, with a couple new and returning packages like Blacktop, Daytona and a new Performance Handling pack.

We don’t have pricing yet, but the current Charger Scat Pack starts at $40,740 and the Charger Hellcat starts at $68,990. On the Challenger, the Widebody option adds $6,000, and we’d assume this will stick close to that.

The 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and SRT Scat Pack will start arriving in dealerships in early 2020.
