Report: TT and R8 Come Under Increased Focus as Pressure to Cut Costs Mounts

The future of Audi’s two most driver-focused vehicles is at risk as the pressure to save up to 15 billion euros forces the brand to make tough choices.

According to an unnamed source who spoke with the UK’s Autocar, “cars like the TT and R8 were reviewed as part of a general cost-cutting process in the past. However, they have now come under increased focus.”

Countless reports have popped up in recent years alleging that the two cars, both impractical and staunchly un-hybridized, might be axed. It shouldn’t really come as a surprise that the cars’ futures are coming into question yet again.

It must be said, though, that Audi’s performance line-up is facing the dual pressures of fully electric performance cars like the e-tron GT and cost-saving schemes that would see the brand try to find €15 billion ($17.6 billion) in savings by the end of 2022. Not developing a new gas-powered supercar and sportscar might be just the kind of thing that helps Audi find those Euros.
