Pay double toll for invalid / non-functional FASTags

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, vehicles with invalid or non-functional FASTags will be charged double the toll amount if they enter the dedicated FASTag lane.

Reports suggest that the decision was taken as vehicles with invalid or non-functional FASTags were entering dedicated FASTag lanes in order to avoid long queues in cash lanes. This was causing delays in FASTag lanes.

Since December 2019, every toll plaza has a dedicated cash lane. However, the remaining lanes only accept FASTags. Until now, only vehicles without FASTags were being penalized for entering the FASTag lanes.
