Kriega is a British brand which manufactures a range of waterproof luggage. The unique design has been provided in such a manner that it can fit the subframe of any motorcycle. The pack/s can easily be mounted/removed by four quick release buckles, and hence no additional securing is required with ropes or bungee cords. Also, since the luggage system is waterproof, no rain covers are required. The system uses removable alloy hook straps connected to the bag which allow combination of packs to be carried with confidence and convenience.
The alloy hooks are made of aircraft grade material which attach to four discreet web loops located on the subframe. These web loops are affixed on the bike and may be left there forever desired. All sizes of bags would buckle up in the same loops. The product has 10 year warranty. These bags may be used in multiple combination of sizes depending on the requirement of stuff to be carried. Multiple bags piggy-back on top of each other or may be affixed on either sides depending on the sizes of the same.
The product feels tough and has a 100% waterproof main body which is achieved through the use of a removable inner jacket. The outer zipper pocket is somewhat rain resistant but not water proof. The outer shell is stitched from cordura and has abrasion resistance reinforcement. The inner dry pack is white in colour which is a removable tape-lined provision.
The hooks are made of 6061-T6 alloy aircraft grade aluminium. The Universal System(US) bags have a rear mesh pocket. The material of the mesh is strong and gets a sticky grip on the seat of the motorcycle.
These bags in no way are the floppy kinds. They feel tough and have the rigid character in them. That said, over-stuffing these bags is not possible. They retain their shape vey well and hold the luggage well inside. The bags upto the capacity of 30L open from one side only like a kit-bag and have roll-top closure system. However, the 40L(largest capacity in the series) opens up from both the sides so that the access to the luggage is convenient. Depending on the luggage to be carried, additional capacity bags may be included.
On a multiple day trip, the mesh pockets provided behind each bag may be used to stow wet garments or the removable shoulder straps provided with the bigger capacity bags to lug them around when taken off the bike. The design of these bags are very much a personal choice as there are riders who may prefer lateral opening up of the bags for easy packing and accessibility.
Worth the Money?
It is quite subjective…People may find this product a tad expensive than the other luggage systems available in our market. I have the dirt sack 40L bag too, which I have used on the Tiger, but after using the Kriega I wouldn’t use the previous one due to reasons which are personal. Any damage caused to the bags are covered under warranty, hence it is felt that it is more practical to use these.
Ergo, worth the investment for me!
