Mercedes-AMG G63 | Spotted

Yes, the future EV G-Class is cool – but a V8 is cooler

If you’ve been keeping up with the newest news coming out of the Munich Motor Show this week, you’ll have seen the de facto standard for the future of motoring is electric cars. It was a very quiet show – literally. The VW ID. LIFE, the E-Legend EL1 Audi ‘tribute’, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53. In fact, Merc had a busy show, also premiering the electric G-Wagen… Yep, you heard. There are four motors, one for each wheel, a two-speed transmission and a supposed range of over 400 miles. Not that you’ll need that many when you’re just circling the Kings Road.

You’ve probably seen the pics on the internet, showing off fancy LED light here there and everywhere, giving it that Soho divebar vibe, and the promise it will be just as capable off-road as the normal model. We hope that’s true, but on the surface, an electric G-Class still isn’t a concept we’re sold on just yet.

Luckily, the good ol’ PistonHeads classifieds still has plenty of that sweet, sweet V8 goodness up for grabs. This stunning Emerald Green G63 is one of them. Truffle Brown leather interior. One owner from new. Warranty until March 2023. It ticks so many boxes of what a Harrods-cruising G-Wagen owner could want. There’s 585hp, a nine-speed auto gearbox, a 0-60mph time of 4.4sec and a top speed of 137mph.

The spec list of this one goes on and on, with the optional interior leather pack a £5,500 option, and the Night Package upgrade at just under £3k both fitted. We’re not exactly saying the alternative to an EV future should be to snap up V8s while you’ve still got the chance – but maybe the G-Class is the exception to that. Maybe. Don’t tell us off…
