The new Thar was launched on the Mahindra Group’s 75th anniversary on October 2, 2020.

The new Thar was launched on the Mahindra Group’s 75th anniversary on October 2, 2020. According to the company, millennials account for over 40% of bookings. 50% of the bookings are for the automatic variant, and 25% of the total bookings are for the petrol variant.
The last generation Thar was only offered with diesel engines and a manual transmission. The new model comes with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol engine that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm. It is also available with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that makes 130 BHP and 320 Nm.
Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive with a manual-shift transfer case is standard across all variants.
