Audi USA Poaches VW Canada's Chief for Presidential Role

Daniel Weissland will become President of Audi USA as of September 1, 2019. The German national replaces interim president, Cian O’Brien.

“Daniel is a strong leader of people with deep expertise in our business and a track record for driving consistent sales growth, which makes him an excellent fit for President of Audi of America,” said Hildegard Wortmann, member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing, AUDI AG. “His belief in a customer-centric approach is vital for the U.S. market amidst a time of transformative change redefining mobility as we know it.”

Weissland joined Audi in 1998, when he interned in Industrial Engineering and Product Marketing for Audi USA. Most recently, though, he was the president and CEO for Volkswagen Group Canada.

There he achieved record growth for the company and saw the division onto its best sales year ever.

The new president won’t have it easy, though. Following years of record sales growth, Audi’s last pick for president, Mark del Rosso resigned abruptly after months of dipping sales.

That sales trouble, Audi argued, came as a result of production issues in Germany that were borne of new regulatory standards. And there is now reason to be optimistic. With Audi’s new raft of sedans finally hitting dealerships, sales are starting to inch upwards, with July’s sales rising nearly 1% over last year’s totals. As a result, July’s sales alone account for 15% of 2019’s sales so far.
