299hp Skoda Enyaq iV joins vRS range

Family-friendly Enyaq follows coupe, still with much green

That a regular Enyaq vRS would follow the Coupe version was almost certain. There was already a VW ID.5 GTX and ID.4 equivalent, and Skoda remains the practical, value-led brand in the portfolio; keeping the Enyaq vRS range to just the £54,370 coupe wouldn’t have been right.

So here’s the regular Enyaq iV vRS, complete with the same 299hp, dual-motor set-up as found in the Coupe and the equivalent VWs. The 82kWh battery can charge at 135kW, the maximum range is said to be more than 310 miles (helped by a drag co-efficient of 0.265Cd), and the big bus can scoot to 62mph in 6.5 seconds. This vRS is just as fast as the Coupe, in fact, so buyers will lose nothing in performance stakes in opting for the moderately more practical body. (There are 15 more litres of boot space now, at 585 litres, extendable to 1,710 with the seats down.)

Standard vRS kit includes sports suspension that drops the Enyaq 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear, 20-inch aero-optimised wheels, black accents, and a glut of vRS badges. The Hyper Green paint seen here can only be had on vRS Enyaqs. The interior is upgraded with ‘the sporty ambience typical of the vRS series’, which here includes carbon effect trim, aluminium design pedal covers and sports seats with lime contrast piping. A more mellow leather with grey stitching is available as an option.

With the original iV vRS not being quite as sporty as might be hoped for a car with ‘coupe’ in the name, perhaps the 299hp upgrade in a standard Enyaq will sit more comfortably with the traditional vRS attributes of performance, practicality and relative affordability. There isn’t any word yet on UK pricing or availability, but we’d expect it to nestle somewhere between the 265hp, £51,765 80x Sportline Plus and the aforementioned vRS Coupe. And don’t be surprised if it’s popular – Skoda reckons the 100,000th Enyaq, without this vRS in production, will roll down the line any day now…
