Volkswagen introduces new ID. Charger, from RM1.8k

In a bid to make electric mobility more attractive for as many people as possible, Volkswagen will be rolling out a range of wallbox chargers, called ID. Charger, as soon as its new ID.3 hatch hits markets.

There are three versions of the wallbox, starting with the entry-level ID. Charger. It’s priced at 399 euros (RM1.8k), has a charging capacity of up to 11 kW (five times faster than a normal domestic power socket), and features an integrated DC fault current protection for maximum safety. This means charging up the ID.3 with a 58 kWh battery to full capacity requires six hours, ideal for overnight uses.

Next up is the ID. Charger Connect. This unit costs 599 euros (RM2.7k) and, as its name suggests, can be connected to a home network and smartphone via WLAN or LAN connection. LTE connectivity is available as an option, too. With this wallbox, customers can monitor charging status and make use of features such as app management, remote maintenance, and regular software updates.

The range-topping wallbox is the ID. Charger Pro, featuring an integrated electric metre for precise billing per kilowatt hour, on top of the connectivity functions from the ID. Charger Connect, and comes with built-in LTE module as well. Volkswagen says this can be beneficial for a company car driver and their employer. The launch price is at 849 euros (RM3.9k), and bundled with the purchase is a lifetime LTE data coverage.

All three chargers can easily be installed at home and come with a fixed Type 2 charging cable. Customers can order the chargers online or at any authorised Volkswagen dealerships from the end of November.
