Uber has become one of the UK’s most popular taxi services and its celebrating a big milestone with a huge competition. Find out more here.
Uber launched almost a decade ago in the UK and has since become one of the most popular transportation services.
The company is set to hit its one billionth UK trip later this month.
To celebrate, Uber has launched a completion where the one billionth rider will win free trips for the next ten years.
In addition, the Uber driver who is driving the winning passenger will win themselves a brand new electric vehicle worth over £30,000.
Simply order an Uber ride and if you’re the lucky winner, you will receive an email notifying within 30 days of the competition ending.
The winner will be awarded a worth of £10,000 in credit with free Uber trips.
Rides eligible for the competition are available from now until 15 December 2021.
According to Uber, over 400,000 trips were taken on Uber in the last month.
And in the pandemic, NHS staff took over 3.8 million discounted rides.
The first ever Uber UK trip was taken on 29 June 2012.
Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, said: “This is an incredible milestone for everyone who has used the Uber app to ride or earn in the UK.”
He added: “Since launching nearly a decade ago, we have transformed the way that people get from A to B, and have provided genuine earnings opportunities for tens of thousands of drivers across the country.”
The competition is open to all UK residents aged 18 and over who have an active rider account with Uber.
Over the last three months, riders from more than 130 countries have used Uber in the UK.
Uber’s busiest day in the UK was in the lead to Christmas 2019 with over 1,085,000 completed rides taken on 14 December 2019.
Next plans for Uber is to focus on electric vehicles and it plans to make London fully electric by 2025.
Over 90 percent of all new cars that join Uber are electric.
