We recently introduced you to Jun Imai of Kaido House and his unique, highly detailed die-cast customs that collectors have been fighting to get ahold of. We also highlighted his brand’s collaborative effort with MiniGT to offer a custom die-cast collectible line to the masses, and they ended up with a smash hit on their hands with their very first product.
In the spirit of partnering with various industry brands and figures, Imai reached out to Sung Kang of Fast & Furious fame to help come up with a new look for the 510 model and added some other new, very familiar names to the next phase of the Kaido House collectibles project. In fact, just about every portion of this latest production involves friends, partners, and fellow industry figureheads.
The same Pro Street style and minute details are at play in this latest version, including the articulating hood, which can be opened to showcase the GReddy turbocharged KA24DE engine. Up front, classic four-spoke alloy wheels are used while out back, wrapped in slicks, you’ll find deep-dish eight-spoke wheels which Imai notes are a result of some fresh tooling.
The two-tone color treatment is available in bright orange and black or Safari Red and black. Additional details, like the fender-exit exhaust, beefy roll bar, drag wing, and Kang-inspired license plate help complete the package.
Friends In High Places
The older enthusiast crowd will quickly spot the Erick’s Racing logo in the rear window. For those not familiar, Erick Aguilar is an import performance legend and highly experienced dyno tuner, having dirtied his hands on an endless number of Z-cars over the years (as well as 510s, various old school Japanese trucks, and so much more). All of that is in addition to his all-out assault on the All Motor Class with a B-series Civic coupe a few decades ago during import drag racing’s golden era. Last year, Aguilar began a partnership with Kang on his next big project based on another Z-car, which is currently in the works and looking incredible.
Other labels on the project include Student Driver, the lifestyle brand put together by Sung Kang and Daniel Wu, who, if you recall, brought his breathtaking Honda S800 to SEMA a few years ago and had everyone gawking. The lifestyle brand partnership is centered on motivating the automotive community with a strong emphasis on sharing information, learning, and developing skills, especially behind the wheel.
As with previous projects, GReddy Performance Products and GPP President, Kenji Sumino collaborated on this model. Long-time friends and project car partners, Imai and Sumino often put their heads together for various scaled-down and life-size builds, and, you guessed it, Sumino and Kang have also worked together on the world-famous FuguZ.
The Kaido House x Sung Kang collaboration 510 will be available for preorder this week via @minigtofficial.
