Every year, Consumer Reports publishes a list of the most satisfying new cars to own according to their extensive data from new car owners, and it always promises to have a few surprises. This year, winners hail from predictable sources like Toyota and Subaru, but Rivian also managed to squeeze out a segment win, which, given all of its production headaches and delays, says something good about the quality and impression of the company’s handling of the final product. Somewhat interestingly, Consumer Reports still breaks out electric and hybrid vehicles separate from their associated manufacturing segments, which likely sways the results slightly. According to the owner satisfaction survey, the Rivian R1T is the most satisfying new EV, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is the best hybrid car, and the Toyota RAV4 Prime is the best hybrid SUV. While Toyota reliability is already spoken for, the Rivian is known to have had production headaches and a slow roll-out to customers, so it’s placement comes as something of a surprise, especially given its very low Consumer Reports reliability score of just 2 out of 5. People like their electric truck!

The plucky Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback lands the compact car segment, the Toyota Camry wins above other midsize/large cars, and the Chevy Corvette is the most-loved sports car on sale right now, according to the survey. For the luxury segments, the Genesis G70 wins the compact segment while the G80 wins for the bigger luxo cars.

Subaru snags the subcompact and compact SUV segments with the Crosstrek and Forester, respectively, and the Genesis GV70 is the third luxury win for the Korean automaker, with the Porsche Cayenne cleaning up the midsize/large luxury SUV spot. The Ford Bronco is the most satisfying midsize two-row SUV, and the handsome Kia Telluride wins the large, three-row SUV contest.

With the Rivian already stealing the best EV spot, the pickup segments are open to other manufacturers. The Ford Maverick Hybrid deservedly wins for compact pickups, the Honda Ridgeline is the best midsizer, and the Toyota Tundra beats out the best-selling F-150 for full-sized trucks. Finally, with little competition, the Toyota Sienna wins the minivan satisfaction survey.
