The specialist warns club members and those with a no claims bonus are likely to be liable for a reduction in caravan insurance premiums. Although caravan insurance was not a legal requirement, securing cover is “highly recommended” for new owners.

Greg Wilson, founder of Quotezone said a policy would offer protection on trips and will also cover possessions.

He said: “Caravan insurance and breakdown cover aren’t legal requirements.

“But they’re highly recommended, especially for drivers towing a caravan for the very first time.

“The insurance not only offers protection for you and other drivers whilst on the road, it can also cover possessions whilst parked and enjoying your holiday.

“Window locks, alarms, trackers and clamps can be bought relatively cheaply and can sometimes help to bring down insurance premiums.

“It’s also worth checking if you’re eligible for any reductions in your premium.

“For example, if you have a high no claims bonus, have low mileage or are a member of a caravan club.”

Insurance experts at Caravan Guard have confirmed they offer a 10 percent discount on rates for those who confirm they are part of any caravan club.

They said: “As a leading caravan insurance specialist, Caravan Guard offer a range of discounts for caravanners who take steps to reduce the risk of their caravan being involved in an accident or being stolen.

“We believe that caravan owners who join one of the caravan clubs are more likely to take care of their caravan and as such we offer a caravan club insurance discount of 10 percent to existing and new customers.”

Members of the Camping and Caravanning Club can also receive a five percent discount on touring caravan cover.

They say drivers can also receive a 25 percent discount if they have a no claims policy for four or more years.
